One Woman Show

One Woman Show

“Coming to the stage now: a performer of average looks and average talent. The actress who can sing a song if only you feed it to her and can tell you a loose story if you wait several months.

Here she is in her One Woman Show!”

The announcer knows she’s more than that, but it’s always better for business not to set standards too high.

She can change her appearance on the drop of a dime to fit the role she’s playing.

She can make the audience laugh, cry even, if they’re paying enough attention.

She’ll sing dreadfully, on purpose of course, to fit the character of her choosing.

The lights on stage are dim, but she’ll curse and cry and kick and scream to keep the people’s eyes.

There’s yawns about, she acts a fool, she’s having a grand old time. Her fans, if that word were to fit, suggest she gets a co-star. Insisting that the act won’t stale, she adds more characters.

She jokes and yells and cries and soon falls short of breath.

The lights are low, expectations alike, and the room seems full of her voice.

No gaze to meet and no story left, she wonders who was watching

Her one woman show.
